‘Crypta‘ have released “A Portrait of Decay,” the first track to showcase the band’s new lineup and offer a glimpse into their future sound. The Brazilian death metal force arrive with a track that hits like an aggressive death metal steamroller while exploring dissociation as a means of enduring pain and suffering, paired with the spine-tingling vocals of ‘Fernanda Lira’.
The track was recorded in Belgium in June and engineered, mixed, and mastered by ‘Yarne Heylen’ at Project Zero Studio. Artwork was created by Brazilian artist ‘Marcos Miller’. “A Portrait of Decay” is out now worldwide on all major streaming platforms and will also be available as a strictly limited 7″ vinyl release.

The single marks the first recording to feature new permanent guitarist ‘Victoria Villarreal’, who was announced in April, completing the four-piece lineup alongside ‘Fernanda Lira’ on bass and vocals, ‘Luana Dametto’ on drums, and ‘Tainá Bergamaschi’ on guitar.
An official music video accompanies the release, its script written by drummer ‘Luana Dametto’, who explained the visual concept:
“The video clip is both an almost poetic contrast to the harsh death metal sound but also a cinematic depiction of the lyrics: An ethereal and almost dream-like landscape that represents someone’s true state of being, clear thoughts and light emotions, that slowly dissipate with the passing of time and changing of surroundings, and with the night and a much darker environment, after a while, feelings of being adrift and astray arise, showing that our conditions and time can directly change the way we see ourselves and the way we feel and interact.”
The single arrives just in time for ‘Crypta’ to kick off their North American “Wrath Across North America Tour” alongside ‘Arch Enemy‘, ‘The Black Dahlia Murder’, ‘Septicflesh’, and ‘Thrown Into Exile’, beginning October 5 in Riverside, California.
Formed in 2019 by former ‘Nervosa‘ members ‘Luana Dametto’ and ‘Fernanda Lira’, ‘Crypta’ released their latest album “Shades of Sorrow” in August 2023, blending classic and modern death metal with elements of extreme and black metal. Their latest shows marked a farewell to the “Shades of Sorrow” era, paving the way for the new music now beginning to take shape.
